New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): In a pioneering initiative combining modern technology with public service, the Department of Posts on Friday executed its first-ever delivery of the National Flag using a drone from Mandi to Rehardhar in Himachal Pradesh. The milestone event was inaugurated virtually on the eve of Independence Day by Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The drone took flight from the Mandi Head Post Office and successfully landed at the remote Rehardhar Branch Post Office, where postal officials received the parcel containing the Tiranga before formally presenting it to an army veteran. Speaking on the occasion, Scindia remarked that the aerial journey of the flag symbolizes a modern India committed to overcoming difficult geographical barriers to connect with every citizen, while supporting nationwide participation in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
The successful flight highlights India Post’s ongoing strategy to integrate emerging technologies into its conventional postal framework, particularly to resolve last-mile connectivity challenges across rugged and inaccessible terrain. As part of a broader modernization drive, the Department of Posts has formulated plans to deploy drone-based mail transmission networks across 150 identified routes spanning Himachal Pradesh and Assam, reinforcing delivery efficiency under its service motto, ‘Dak Sewa, Jan Sewa.’
