Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini commended the state’s athletes for their outstanding performance in the Commonwealth Games, highlighting their major contribution to the country’s overall medal tally. Out of the total 13 gold medals won by India in the event, athletes from Haryana secured 7 gold medals. Extending his heartfelt congratulations to the players and their families, Chief Minister Saini noted that the state’s sportspersons, particularly women athletes, continue to shine on the global stage across key disciplines such as boxing and javelin.
Among the top achievers, para-athlete Sharmila from Rewari, alongside boxers Priti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Sachin Siwach, and Priya Ghanghas from Bhiwani, and boxer Ankush from Hisar, earned gold medals. Additionally, javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra from Panipat and boxer Narender Berwal from Hansi secured silver medals, while athletics competitor Seema from Bhiwani earned a bronze medal in the discus throw. In total, Haryana athletes brought home 7 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal, inspiring millions of youth across the state.
Reaffirming the state’s support, CM Saini emphasized that Haryana has earned its status as a sporting powerhouse through robust policies, including direct recruitment for athletes, substantial cash awards, and modern infrastructure. The state government continues to construct indoor stadiums, synthetic tracks, world-class academies, and sports nurseries at the village level. Under initiatives like “Khelenge Haryana, Jeetenge Haryana,” the administration is providing specialized sports scholarships, free coaching, and financial assistance, particularly aimed at empowering female athletes to achieve success internationally.
