Ahmedabad (Rajeev Sharma): A ground movement error involving two passenger aircraft briefly disrupted operations at Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday evening after an arriving aircraft reportedly entered the path of another plane preparing for departure.
According to aviation sources, an Air India aircraft that had recently landed allegedly deviated from its assigned taxi route while moving toward its designated parking stand. The aircraft subsequently found itself on the same taxiway being used by an IndiGo flight that was preparing for take-off.
Airport ground controllers and flight crews responded immediately, and both aircraft were brought to a stop before the situation could escalate. Sources indicated that the planes remained separated by a considerable distance and at no point was passenger safety compromised.
The incident temporarily delayed the departure of the Mumbai-bound IndiGo service as airport authorities worked to clear the taxiway. The Air India aircraft was later repositioned and moved to its assigned parking location.
In a statement, Air India acknowledged that one of its aircraft operating on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad sector had unintentionally taken an incorrect turn after landing. The airline said corrective action was taken promptly and stressed that the safety of passengers, crew and airport operations remained unaffected throughout the episode.
The carrier also confirmed that the occurrence has been reported to aviation regulators and that an internal review has been initiated to determine the circumstances that led to the taxiing error.
IndiGo, meanwhile, stated that its flight experienced a short delay during pushback and taxi procedures because another aircraft inadvertently entered its path. The airline noted that both aircraft remained stationary at a safe distance until the situation was resolved and that the flight later departed normally and landed safely in Mumbai.
Aviation experts note that taxiway incidents, though uncommon, are treated seriously because they involve aircraft movement in active airport areas. Such events typically trigger procedural reviews involving flight crews, air traffic controllers and ground operations personnel to ensure adherence to airport movement protocols.
Authorities are now expected to examine communication records, taxi instructions and cockpit procedures as part of the investigation. The findings will help determine whether the incident resulted from human error, navigational misunderstanding or operational factors on the ground.
Airport operations resumed normally shortly afterward, with no injuries reported and no damage caused to either aircraft.
