Delhi Tightens Bakra Eid Rules, Cracks Down on Illegal Sacrifice and Unauthorised Animal Trade

Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Ahead of Bakra Eid celebrations, the Delhi government has stepped up enforcement measures and issued fresh directives aimed at preventing illegal animal sacrifice and unauthorised trading activities across the city.

Announcing the decision, Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra said the Development Department has rolled out strict instructions to ensure the festival is observed in accordance with the law and public order is maintained.

Under the revised guidelines, the slaughter of banned animals such as cows, calves, camels and other restricted cattle species has been declared a punishable offence. Officials warned that any attempt to carry out such acts would invite criminal prosecution and immediate legal action.

The administration has also prohibited animal sacrifice at open or public locations, including roadsides, parks, residential streets and market spaces. Authorities have been directed to maintain close surveillance to ensure compliance during the festival period.

In addition, the setting up of temporary livestock markets in unauthorised places has been barred. The government stated that buying and selling animals on roads, in narrow lanes or at unlicensed spots will not be tolerated, and violators could face strict penalties.

The civic administration has also focused on sanitation concerns, making it clear that disposal of blood, remains or waste material into public drains, sewer systems or streets is strictly forbidden. Municipal teams have been instructed to monitor sensitive areas and act against any breach of cleanliness norms.

Officials said sacrificial rituals must only be conducted at officially approved sites equipped to handle waste disposal and hygiene requirements.

The Delhi government has further urged residents to cooperate with local authorities and report any suspicious activity or rule violations to the police or the Development Department.

The measures are intended to ensure peaceful observance of Bakra Eid while maintaining public hygiene, civic discipline and compliance with existing legal provisions across the national capital.
