New Delhi/Moscow (Rajeev Sharma): An Indian national was killed and three others were injured following a drone attack in the Moscow region, the Indian Embassy in Russia confirmed on Sunday. Diplomatic officials have visited the location of the strike and met with the surviving workers who are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. The embassy expressed its profound condolences over the loss of life and stated that it is actively co-ordinating with company management and local administrative authorities to ensure all necessary assistance is provided to the affected individuals, though the identities of the victims have not yet been publicly disclosed.
The Russian Embassy in New Delhi also issued a statement mourning the death of the Indian worker and extended its sympathies to those injured in the aerial bombardment, which it characterized as an attack on civilian facilities. According to preliminary reports from Russian media and official sources, the overnight strikes on Saturday claimed a total of three lives and left six others injured within the broader Moscow region, while more than 12 people sustained injuries within Moscow city itself. Local reports noted that two of the fatalities occurred in the Mytishchi area when falling drone debris struck a building under construction.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated, via Russia’s TASS news agency, that regional air defence systems successfully intercepted and shot down more than 120 drones heading toward the capital over a 24-hour window. This intense wave of cross-border strikes marks a significant escalation in the ongoing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, which have seen a sharp increase in long-range missile and drone operations over recent months. The deadly incident highlights the growing toll on civilian lives and foreign workers as diplomatic channels continue to seek a negotiated settlement to the three-year-old conflict.
