Rajeev Sharma :- A tragic incident has surfaced from Rajasthan amid growing anxiety among students following the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination. A medical aspirant, identified as Pradeep Mahich from Jhunjhunu district, allegedly died by suicide after reportedly falling into severe stress over the uncertainty surrounding the exam.
According to police officials, Pradeep had been preparing for the medical entrance examination in Sikar for the past three years while living with his two sisters in a rented accommodation. He was enrolled in a private coaching institute and was said to be highly focused on securing admission to a government medical college.
Family members stated that Pradeep had performed well in the examination and was expecting around 650 marks. They claimed he was confident about qualifying for a government medical seat this year, but the cancellation of the exam deeply disturbed him.
The incident reportedly took place on Friday afternoon. Police said Pradeep allegedly hanged himself using a scarf attached to a ceiling fan inside his room. At the time of the incident, his younger sister had gone for coaching classes, while the elder sister was in the bathroom. Upon coming out, she found him hanging and immediately informed the landlord and police after bringing him down.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body has been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Pradeep’s father told police that his son had been under immense pressure ever since the National Testing Agency cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination over allegations of paper leaks and irregularities. The decision has impacted lakhs of aspirants across the country, many of whom are now facing uncertainty regarding their academic future.
Police have initiated further proceedings in the matter while the incident has once again highlighted concerns over rising mental stress among competitive exam aspirants.
