Gurpreet Singh :- In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Ludhiana arrested an alleged drug peddler and recovered 500 grams of heroin along with 100 grams of ice, also known as methamphetamine, during a special naka operation conducted on the basis of a secret tip-off. Police sources estimated the international market value of the seized narcotics at nearly ₹6 crore.
Sharing details of the operation, Sub-Inspector Satpal Singh said the police had received confidential information that a drug supplier was heading towards Gyaspura Road with a consignment of narcotics. Acting swiftly, the ANTF laid a special blockade in the area and intercepted an Activa scooter rider during checking.
Upon searching the accused, police recovered half a kilogram of heroin and 100 grams of methamphetamine. The accused was identified as Harry Verma, a resident of Hargobind Pura in Ludhiana.
According to investigators, the accused earlier worked in the garment printing business but allegedly turned to drug trafficking after his business suffered losses. Preliminary investigation has revealed that he had reportedly been involved in the narcotics trade for nearly two years.
Police officials said the accused was produced before a court, which granted a three-day police remand for further interrogation. Investigators believe the questioning could lead to major revelations regarding the supply chain and wider network involved in the drug racket.
Authorities are now trying to trace the origin of the seized consignment and identify other individuals linked to the trafficking operation. Cyber and technical investigations are also being carried out to uncover the larger network behind the smuggling of heroin and methamphetamine in the region.
