Jabalpur (Rajeev Sharma): The toll from the tragic boat accident at Bargi Dam has risen to 12, with authorities confirming the recovery of another victim on Sunday. Rescue teams are still searching for one individual who remains untraceable.
The incident occurred when a passenger vessel overturned during adverse weather conditions in Jabalpur earlier this week. Officials said the boat, which had been in operation for nearly two decades, lost balance amid strong winds, leading to the disaster.
Police sources revealed that a large-scale search effort is ongoing, covering an extensive stretch of the reservoir. Teams are scanning deep waters to locate the missing person, believed to be linked to a local ordnance facility.
More than 200 personnel are engaged in the operation, including divers from the Army, as well as teams from the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force. Local rescue workers are also assisting in the effort.
Preliminary assessments indicate that over 40 individuals were heading towards the vessel at the time of the accident. While many were rescued shortly after the incident, several others could not be saved.
In the aftermath, the state administration has initiated a detailed probe to determine the cause of the mishap. Authorities have also taken action against crew members and suspended similar boating operations across the state until further safety checks are completed.
