Border Vigilance Thwarts Drone Drop Bid, Narcotics Recovered in Amritsar Sector

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): Security forces successfully intercepted a suspected drone-led smuggling attempt along the international border in Amritsar, recovering narcotics and an unmanned aerial vehicle during a late-night operation.

Officials said personnel stationed near the Kalam Dogar border area noticed unusual aerial movement and immediately activated response protocols. Troops of the Border Security Force opened fire to disrupt the drone’s movement, forcing it to drop its payload before retreating.

A coordinated search of nearby farmland led to the seizure of a drone along with around 535 grams of suspected heroin. Preliminary findings indicate that the consignment was intended to be delivered to contacts on the Indian side after being launched from across the Pakistan border.

Authorities believe such attempts are part of an organised network increasingly relying on drones to transport contraband across heavily guarded zones. Following the incident, security arrangements in the area have been tightened, with enhanced patrolling and surveillance measures in place.

Investigative agencies are now focusing on identifying the handlers on both sides of the border and tracing the exact launch point of the drone. Officials stated that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the larger smuggling network involved.

The incident underscores the evolving tactics used by traffickers and the continued vigilance of border forces in countering such threats.
