Mansa (Gurpreet Singh): Anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota was cremated in Mansa on Sunday, ending a 26-day wait for his last rites amid protests and demands for justice. Thousands of supporters, along with family members and relatives, gathered to pay their final respects to the activist.
The funeral procession saw supporters raise slogans against drug smugglers and those allegedly protecting them. The gathering also reflected growing anger against the Punjab government and local police administration over the circumstances surrounding Jhota’s death.
Father Alleges Political Conspiracy Behind Parvinder Jhota’s Death
After the cremation, Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh, accused the Punjab government and local police administration of being part of a political conspiracy that allegedly led to his son’s death.
He claimed that influential drug smugglers in the region enjoyed political protection and that Jhota was targeted for raising his voice against the drug trade. Bhim Singh also alleged that no concrete action had been taken against senior police officials and politically influential individuals suspected of involvement.
These allegations have not been independently established.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the administration’s response, the family sought the intervention of the Central Government and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Bhim Singh demanded the immediate transfer of the Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), arguing that it was necessary to ensure an impartial investigation without external pressure.
Family Vows To Continue Fight For Justice
Bhim Singh maintained that the cremation would not bring an end to the family’s campaign for justice. He said the family and Jhota’s supporters would continue their struggle until a high-level investigation was conducted and those responsible were brought to justice.
He also demanded stringent punishment for the main accused and alleged conspirators.
Jhota had campaigned against drug abuse in Punjab’s Malwa region and received considerable public support. His death has brought renewed attention to the anti-drug movement and demands for accountability in the state.
Supporters have called for a thorough investigation, saying that action against those responsible is essential to ensuring accountability in the fight against drug trafficking.
