Peace Efforts Stall as US-Iran Tensions Persist, Talks Collapse

Tehran/Washington (Rajeev Sharma): Prospects for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing tensions between United States and Iran have dimmed, with negotiations failing to make headway and both sides maintaining firm positions.

Efforts to revive dialogue suffered a setback after Donald Trump called off a proposed visit by American representatives to Islamabad. The move came shortly after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi concluded his trip to the Pakistani capital without any concrete breakthrough.

Pakistan had been attempting to play a mediating role between the two sides, but diplomatic sources indicated that significant differences remain unresolved. Iranian officials have signalled that they are unwilling to accept what they describe as stringent conditions set by Washington.

The impasse comes against the backdrop of heightened regional tensions involving Israel, further complicating the situation and raising concerns over broader instability in West Asia.

The prolonged standoff has already had a visible impact on global markets, with oil prices climbing and fears of inflation resurfacing in several economies. Analysts warn that continued uncertainty could weigh on economic growth worldwide if a resolution remains out of reach.

While Iranian officials described recent engagements as constructive, there appears to be little immediate scope for formal negotiations to resume. Observers say the coming days will be crucial in determining whether diplomatic channels can be reopened or if tensions will escalate further.
