Washington (Rajeev Sharma): US President Donald Trump described the recent shooting scare at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as “unexpected,” while commending security agencies for their rapid and decisive action in preventing a major incident in Washington, D.C..

Addressing the media after the incident, Trump said the armed individual was quickly subdued by Secret Service personnel and local law enforcement. He noted that the suspect, reportedly from California, had attempted to breach a secured checkpoint carrying multiple weapons before being neutralised.

Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, the President said the country had faced similar threats in recent years, recalling earlier attempts on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania and Palm Beach, Florida. He stressed that such incidents reflect ongoing challenges to national security.

Trump also shared visuals of the incident, including CCTV footage showing the suspect’s movements before being apprehended. He stated that the material was released to ensure transparency and to demonstrate the efficiency of the response by security forces.
