Toronto (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta is set to make a major pitch to international investors as Premier Danielle Smith leads a provincial delegation to the inaugural Canada Investment Summit in Toronto from Sept. 13 to 15.
The Alberta delegation, known as Team Alberta, will use the three-day summit to present 34 investment-ready projects and engage with more than 100 major global investors representing capital pools worth more than $50 trillion.
Joining Smith will be Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration Minister Joseph Schow, Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Tara Sawyer and Technology and Innovation Minister Nate Glubish. Representatives from Invest Alberta Corporation and the Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) will also participate.
The delegation will focus on attracting institutional investment to projects capable of supporting economic expansion and employment across the province. Discussions will cover opportunities in responsible energy development, critical minerals, carbon capture and storage, emissions management, agriculture and forestry, life sciences, aerospace and defence, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and other technology-driven sectors.
Premier Smith said the summit would provide Alberta with an opportunity to engage directly with some of the world’s largest investors and demonstrate the province’s investment potential. She emphasized the government’s focus on attracting capital that can generate jobs, strengthen the economy and create new opportunities for residents.
Schow highlighted Alberta’s workforce, natural resources, available land and regulatory environment as key advantages for investors. He described the province as Canada’s economic engine and said Team Alberta would use the summit to underline its competitiveness as a business destination.
Agriculture Minister Tara Sawyer is expected to highlight investment opportunities across Alberta’s agricultural and agri-food industries. She pointed to the province’s strong farming and ranching sectors, abundant land and established position in international markets, as well as opportunities in value-added processing.
Technology and Innovation Minister Nate Glubish will promote Alberta’s growing technology ecosystem, with artificial intelligence and emerging technologies among the sectors receiving particular attention. He said the province’s talent pool, research capabilities and business environment provide a foundation for turning innovation into companies, jobs and long-term investment.
Keith Bradley, acting CEO of Invest Alberta Corporation, said the province would arrive at the summit with a strong pipeline of projects aligned with global investment demand. He identified energy, critical minerals, technology and value-added industries among the areas offering significant opportunities.
Alberta’s investment proposition is also supported by what the provincial government describes as a stable business environment, extensive natural resources and experience in delivering large-scale projects.
The province is further positioning its growing technology and research ecosystem, skilled workforce, competitive corporate tax structure and targeted investment incentives as factors that can attract international capital. Its combination of established industries and emerging sectors is expected to form a central part of Alberta’s pitch to investors attending the Toronto summit.
