CBI to Move Supreme Court Against Delhi High Court Order Granting Bail to Kuldeep Sengar

National Times Bureau :- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is preparing to approach the Supreme Court to challenge the Delhi High Court’s recent order suspending the life sentence of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case. Sources indicated that after examining the High Court’s ruling, the agency plans to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) at the earliest.

Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court put Sengar’s life sentence on hold while hearing his appeal and granted him bail. However, his release is not immediate, as he continues to remain in jail in connection with another conviction related to the custodial death of the rape survivor’s father. During the proceedings, the CBI placed written submissions before the court, while the survivor’s family strongly opposed the plea, raising serious concerns about their safety and alleging continued threats.

While granting bail, the High Court imposed stringent conditions on Sengar. He has been restrained from entering a five-kilometre radius of the survivor’s residence and has been directed to stay in Delhi throughout the appeal process.

Both the CBI and the survivor’s family had firmly opposed the bail plea, reiterating the gravity of the crime and the potential risk to the victim’s family. The agency has now decided to legally contest the High Court’s decision.
