Haridwar, November 28, 2025: Haridwar witnessed a rare moment on Thursday when Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Acharyas and saints from all 13 Akharas on the banks of the River Ganga to review preparations for the 2027 Kumbh Mela. It was the first time a Chief Minister convened such a discussion directly at a Ganga ghat, signaling the government’s intent to make the upcoming Kumbh one of the most spiritually significant events in recent decades.
Dhami sought guidance from the saint community and assured them that their traditions, requirements and convenience would remain central to all planning. Saints expressed appreciation for the gesture, praising the government’s efforts to preserve cultural heritage and offering full cooperation for the event.
The Chief Minister said the 2027 Haridwar Kumbh would reflect Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of positioning Devbhoomi Uttarakhand as the global spiritual capital. He recalled how the 2021 Kumbh was restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and emphasized that the 2027 gathering would welcome a much larger influx of devotees, surpassing previous editions in 2010 and 2021.
Preparations have begun on a large scale, with coordination underway between state and central agencies. The administration is focusing on crowd management, traffic regulation, emergency response, sanitation, drainage, and environmental safeguards. Dhami said experienced officials from previous Kumbh Melas will guide planning to ensure smooth execution.
The Chief Minister confirmed that the Police, NDRF, PAC, Fire Department, Health Department and other agencies will work jointly to maintain safety across Haridwar and the surrounding ghat areas. Dedicated teams will handle waste management and environmental protection during the months-long pilgrimage.
The meeting was attended by leading saints and Mahants from Niranjani Akhara, Anand Akhara, Juna Bhairav Akhara and others. Several political leaders and officials, including Rajya Sabha MP Kalpana Saini, Haridwar MLA Madan Kaushik and Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, were also present. The gathering concluded with the Chief Minister sharing a meal with the saints, symbolizing unity and collective resolve.
The state government has also released the important bathing dates for the 2027 Kumbh, including Makar Sankranti on January 14, Mauni Amavasya on February 6, Basant Panchami on February 11, Magh Purnima on February 20, Mahashivratri Amrit Snan on March 6, Phalgun Amavasya Amrit Snan on March 8, Nav Samvatsar on April 7, Mesh Sankranti Amrit Snan on April 14, Ram Navami on April 15 and Chaitra Purnima on April 20.
With blessings from the saint community and a coordinated administrative push, Haridwar appears poised to host a grand and transformative Kumbh Mela in 2027.
