Punjab and Haryana High Court Fines Top Officials for Ignoring Orders

Chandigarh, October 28, 2025: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered the deduction of ₹2 lakh from the salaries of four senior Punjab government officials, including Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav and Transport Secretary Pardeep Kumar, for failing to comply with earlier court directives.

As per the court’s order, ₹50,000 will be deducted from each officer’s salary and deposited into the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The other two officers named in the order are State Transport Commissioner Manish Kumar (IAS) and Sangrur Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal (IAS).

The directive was issued during a hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL) related to action against modified vehicles. Notably, the same officials had previously been fined ₹1 lakh each and instructed to submit proof of payment along with their compliance affidavit.

Justice Sudeepti Sharma, presiding over the contempt petition filed by the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Mini Transport Welfare Association, criticized the officials’ behavior, noting it reflected a “continued and deliberate disregard” for judicial directions.

The case is scheduled for its next hearing on November 27.
