Dehradun, September 26, 2025: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took part in a public awareness program in Patel Nagar, Dehradun, on Friday as part of the ongoing “GST Bachat Utsav.” During the event, the CM engaged with traders and residents to understand the impact of recently reduced GST rates.
Addressing the gathering, Dhami said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has embarked on a new era of economic reforms. He described the GST rate cuts as a historic move that will improve affordability and enhance the quality of life for citizens across all sections of society.
“The revised GST rates will make consumer goods more affordable, offering significant relief to common people. Traders must ensure that customers are fully aware of these benefits,” he said. Dhami also encouraged citizens and businesses to prioritise locally made and indigenous products, emphasising that this will strengthen both the state and the national economy.
Traders and consumers expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, launched during the Navratri festival. Many said the GST Savings Festival would bring a boost to markets, especially ahead of the upcoming Diwali season.
The rationalised GST rates, rolled out on September 22, aim to simplify compliance, address long-standing issues such as the inverted duty structure, and stimulate sectoral transformation. Daily-use items, packaged foods, and personal care products have moved from 12–18 per cent to the 5 per cent slab, and staples like paneer, chapati, and khakhra now attract zero tax. Analysts expect these changes to lower prices by 4–6 per cent, improving affordability and driving rural demand.
