Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Vows Strict Action Over Kashipur Violence, Recovers Cheating Mafia Operation

Kashipur, Uttarakhand, September 23, 2025 — Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday promised strict action against those involved in the recent Kashipur violence, including reports of alleged participation by a local SP leader. Speaking to reporters, Dhami stated that anyone taking law and order into their own hands will face strict consequences, and the cost of damages to government and private properties will be recovered from the rioters.

“We have brought anti-riots law in the state. Cost of the damages to the government or private properties will be collected from the rioters,” the Chief Minister said.

In a separate crackdown under the state’s anti-cheating laws, Uttarakhand police carried out a major operation exposing a cheating mafia exploiting candidates preparing for the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) exams. Kingpin Hakam Singh and his associates were arrested for allegedly demanding between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 15 lakh from candidates with promises of clearing the exams.

According to police, the accused planned to retain the money if candidates passed the exam naturally. If a candidate failed, they intended to hold the candidates accountable by claiming the payment would apply to future exams. Interrogations confirmed the scheme involved false promises, and there was no breach of the examination’s fairness or confidentiality.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to curbing both law-and-order violations and cheating operations in the state.
