At India-Sweden Innovation Day 2026, CM Nayab Saini Highlights State’s Swedish Industrial Footprint, Pitches 2027 Summit

STOCKHOLM / CHANDIGARH (GURPREET SINGH)— Serving as the chief guest at India-Sweden Innovation Day 2026 in Sweden, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini pitched the state as a premier manufacturing and technological gateway, calling on European enterprises to deepen bilateral ties under the collaborative vision of “Make in India, Made with Sweden.”

Addressing an international assembly of trade leaders and policymakers, Saini emphasized that bilateral economic cooperation has accelerated substantially, with two-way India-Sweden trade surging from $2.86 billion in 2016 to $7.75 billion in 2025. He linked this sustained growth to the elevation of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the shared “India-Sweden 2035” roadmap provides an enduring framework for breakthroughs in sustainable manufacturing, digitalization, and green technology.

With Haryana acting as the official state partner for the 2026 conclave, the Chief Minister highlighted major Swedish anchor investments already driving economic activity in the state:

  • Retail & Commercial Infrastructure: Swedish home furnishings giant IKEA’s ₹3,500-crore integrated mixed-use commercial complex in Gurugram.
  • Defense & Advanced Manufacturing: Saab’s dedicated Carl-Gustaf shoulder-fired weapons production facility at Reliance MET City in Jhajjar.
  • Industrial Engineering: Swedish-Swiss conglomerate ABB’s extensive Faridabad manufacturing base, operational since 1951 and now a key exporter of high-efficiency electric motors.
  • Education: Swedish educational organization Kunskapsskolan, which established its inaugural Indian academic campus in Gurugram in 2013.

Closing his address, Saini extended an invitation to global investors and institutional delegations to attend the upcoming “Happening Haryana Global Investors Summit 2027,” alongside the annual International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra. The high-level delegation accompanying the Chief Minister included Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa, Haryana Cabinet Minister Vipul Goel, and Indian Ambassador to Sweden Anurag Bhushan.
