National Times Bureau (Gurpreet Singh): A severe flood situation has gripped the Dera Baba Nanak constituency, leaving many villages in the Kalanaur region completely submerged. Observing the crisis, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal visited the affected areas, met residents, and listened to their grievances.
Badal appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to set aside political stubbornness and immediately hand over the flood-affected areas to the Army. He stressed that only with Army assistance could stranded people be safely evacuated and relief operations be carried out swiftly.
During his visit, Badal also met members of the Gujjar community and arranged fodder for their cattle. He assured that additional relief supplies would soon be delivered to the affected families.
Highlighting the dire conditions, Badal said that residents of flood-hit villages were enduring extreme hardships. Shortages of drinking water, fodder, and food had left people in visible distress and despair. He added that Shiromani Akali Dal workers were actively collecting and distributing fodder, food, and water to support the victims.
Appealing to all Punjabis, Badal urged them to extend help to flood-affected families according to their capacity and to stand united in this hour of crisis.
