Faridkot, August 15, 2025 – On the occasion of Independence Day, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann paid obeisance at Tilla Baba Sheikh Farid on Friday and called upon citizens to follow the path of the revered Sufi saint.
Describing Baba Sheikh Farid as one of India’s greatest spiritual ambassadors and the founder of the Sufi tradition, CM Mann praised him as a poet-prophet whose philosophy of love, compassion, equality, humility, brotherhood, and freedom remains timeless and universally relevant.
Highlighting Baba Farid’s contribution to Punjabi literature, the Chief Minister noted that his Bani, comprising 112 shalokas and four shabads, was incorporated into the Sri Guru Granth Sahib by Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. He emphasized that the scripture is a cosmopolitan text, representing all faiths, and serves as a vast repository of knowledge and wisdom.
“Paying homage to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib is also a tribute to Baba Farid and the great Gurus, reflecting devotion and respect,” CM Mann said. He added that Baba Farid’s teachings are especially relevant in today’s materialistic world and continue to inspire generations to serve humanity with dedication and humility.
Urging the people of Punjab to embrace the saint’s teachings, the Chief Minister said that following Baba Farid’s path would help transform Punjab into the leading state in the country. CM Mann expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit the sacred site, sanctified by the saint’s footprints.
