Ludhiana Canal Turns Deadly: Four Children Drown, Search Continues for One

Ludhiana (National Times): What was supposed to be a simple respite from the heat turned into an unimaginable tragedy in Ludhiana’s Samrat Colony, Gaspura, where four children lost their lives after slipping into a canal.

The children, between seven and eight years old, reportedly went to bathe in the canal two days ago. A rope tied to support them is said to have broken mid-bath, causing four of them to be swept away by the strong current. Among the victims were twin brothers, whose deaths have left the entire locality in mourning.

Speaking to the media, family members said that bodies of three children have been retrieved, while efforts are still ongoing to locate the fourth missing child.

Local residents have criticized authorities for failing to install safety warnings or barricades near high-risk canal zones, especially in areas close to densely populated colonies. Calls for stricter preventive measures are growing louder as Ludhiana reels under this devastating loss.
