Charanjit Channi Among 17 MPs Honoured with Sansad Ratna Award 2025

Chandigarh, May 18, 2025 — Former Punjab Chief Minister and sitting MP Charanjit Singh Channi has been named among the 17 Members of Parliament to receive the prestigious Sansad Ratna Award 2025, recognizing his exemplary parliamentary contributions.

Instituted by the Prime Point Foundation, the Sansad Ratna Awards are given based on data-driven assessments of MPs’ performances in areas such as debates, questions raised, and legislative activity. The jury committee, chaired by Hansraj Ahir, Chairman of the National Commission for Backward Classes, selected MPs who have demonstrated consistent engagement and strengthened democratic processes.

Channi also chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture, which is one of two committees receiving a special honour this year. The committee was commended for highlighting critical farmer issues and proposing meaningful agricultural reforms.

Four MPs—Bhartruhari Mahtab, Supriya Sule, N.K. Premachandran, and Shrirang Appa Barne—received special recognition for their continued excellence in both the 16th and 17th Lok Sabha.

Thirteen other MPs from across the political spectrum were also recognized for their outstanding legislative participation, including Smita Wagh, Arvind Sawant, Varsha Gaikwad, Ravi Kishan, and Nishikant Dubey, among others.

Launched in 2010, the Sansad Ratna Awards aim to promote transparency, accountability, and active parliamentary engagement. Channi’s selection is seen as a proud moment for Punjab, underlining his dual role as an effective parliamentarian and a proactive committee leader.
