Gurdaspur, May 8, 2025 — In view of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Deputy Commissioner of Gurdaspur has announced a mandatory district-wide blackout from 9 PM to 5 AM, effective immediately and continuing until further notice. The order has been issued under the Civil Defence Act, 1968.
The blackout is aimed at bolstering security in this sensitive border district. All residents are required to turn off exterior and visible lights and remain indoors during the blackout period.
Only Central Jail, Gurdaspur, and hospitals are exempted, though these institutions have also been directed to properly shield all light sources to maintain low visibility.
The administration has urged citizens to cooperate fully and avoid unnecessary movement at night. Further instructions will be issued as the situation develops.
