Punjab Government Upholding Ambedkar's Vision for Social Justice: Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan

Faridkot (National Times): Reaffirming the Punjab Government’s commitment to the welfare of marginalized communities, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said the state is working in alignment with the vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and a pioneer of social justice.

Speaking at a district-level function organized at Bhagat Chetan Dev Government B.Ed College in Faridkot on the occasion of Dr. Ambedkar’s 134th birth anniversary, Sandhwan emphasized the importance of upholding the values of equality, education, and empowerment that Ambedkar championed.

The Speaker, who attended the event as the chief guest, was joined by Faridkot MLA S. Gurdit Singh Sekhon, who was present as a special guest.

“Dr. Ambedkar devoted his life to uplifting the underprivileged and reshaping society through reforms rooted in justice and equality,” Sandhwan said. “In line with his ideals, we have ensured that his and Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s portraits are displayed in every government office to inspire citizens.”

Highlighting key initiatives of the Punjab Government, Sandhwan noted the revival of scholarship schemes for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Backward Class students, aimed at ensuring access to quality education and helping youth from disadvantaged backgrounds find dignity and progress in society.

He also pointed out a landmark move by the current government—appointing six ministers from the SC community to the state cabinet, a historic step toward inclusive governance. Additionally, he noted that for the first time, reservation policies have been implemented in the Office of the Advocate General, further underscoring the government’s intent to empower marginalized groups.

MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon also addressed the gathering and paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar, stating that Baba Saheb united diverse communities through the Constitution and safeguarded the rights of all sections of society. “We must carry forward his teachings and work toward uplifting the poor and underprivileged,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur also paid homage to Dr. Ambedkar and spoke about his journey, challenges, and pivotal role in drafting the Constitution. She urged everyone to be mindful not only of their rights but also of their duties as citizens.

The event concluded with a strong message of unity, equality, and continued commitment to building a society that reflects the inclusive and just vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
