CM Bhagwant Mann to Transfer Rs 1,260 Crore to Women Under Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Scheme

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to release the second instalment of the Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana on Thursday, with more than 36 lakh women set to receive financial assistance directly in their bank accounts.

The state government will transfer around ₹1,260 crore under the latest disbursement, covering three months of assistance for 36,87,677 beneficiaries. A state-level event has been organised at Goindwal Sahib, where Mann will oversee the release of the funds.

Women covered under the general category will receive ₹3,000 each, while eligible women belonging to Scheduled Caste communities will get ₹4,500 each for the three-month period.

Following the latest payment, the government said the scheme will have covered 73.99 lakh women, with the total amount transferred under the programme reaching approximately ₹2,562 crore.

Second round of payments

The Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana is among the Punjab government’s major welfare initiatives aimed at providing direct financial assistance to women.

The first instalment was released earlier, while the government subsequently expanded its beneficiary database to include additional eligible women. The latest transfer is therefore expected to reach both existing beneficiaries and women added to the scheme after its initial rollout.

The programme provides a recurring financial benefit, with the government presenting direct transfers as a means of providing households with greater flexibility in meeting their expenses.

Government’s welfare push

The latest payment comes as Punjab’s political parties prepare for the 2027 Assembly election, with welfare programmes expected to remain an important part of the political debate.

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party has continued to highlight its welfare initiatives and other government programmes as part of its record in office. The scale of Thursday’s transfer also places renewed focus on the financial requirements involved in maintaining large beneficiary-based schemes.

At the Goindwal Sahib programme, Mann is expected to highlight the government’s initiatives aimed at women and its efforts to expand direct financial support across Punjab.

The latest instalment will add another ₹1,260 crore to the flow of government assistance under the scheme, as the state continues its efforts to broaden coverage among eligible women.
