Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Athletes from Haryana who represented India at the inaugural World Yogasana Championship met Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at Sant Kabir Kutir in Chandigarh on Wednesday and shared details of their achievements on the international stage.
The delegation was accompanied by Haryana Yoga Commission Chairman Dr. Jaideep Arya and Haryana Yogasana Sports Association General Secretary Dr. Yudhveer.
Congratulating the athletes on their success, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the Haryana Government is continuously working to promote yoga and yogasana while providing better opportunities for sportspersons across the state. He described yoga as an invaluable part of India’s cultural heritage and reiterated the government’s commitment to taking its benefits to every section of society.
The Chief Minister encouraged the players to continue striving for excellence and bring further laurels to Haryana and the country through their performances in national and international competitions.
During the interaction, the athletes requested the Chief Minister to include Yogasana as a recognized discipline under Haryana’s sports policy and extend benefits to Yogasana players on par with athletes from other sports.
The Haryana contingent that represented India at the First World Yogasana Championship included Abhishek Sharma, Arjun, Sumit, Vikas Lathar, Hari Shankar, Birendra Kumar Yadav, Manisha, Madhu Verma, Devi, Srishti and Devanshi.
The players informed the Chief Minister about their performances at the championship and expressed confidence that with continued support and encouragement from the state government, they would continue to achieve success at international events and enhance the reputation of both Haryana and India.
Haryana Yoga Commission Chairman Dr. Jaideep Arya termed the meeting positive and said the commission is working consistently to promote yoga and yogasana among people. He added that the achievements of the athletes are a matter of pride for the state and would inspire more young people to embrace yoga and participate in the sport.
Arya also noted that Haryana athletes have consistently delivered impressive performances at national and international competitions, strengthening the state’s reputation as a leading contributor to Indian sports.
Several officials and coaches, including Haryana Yoga Commission Vice-Chairman Roshan Lal, Registrar Dr. Rajkumar, national coaches Vikas Pachauri and Komal Verma, and state coaches Ansh, Kirti Insan and Nitin Kumar, were also present during the meeting.
