Sirmaur Landslide Traps Three Workers in Himachal, Over 350 Roads Shut Amid Heavy Rain

Relentless Monsoon Rains Wreak Havoc in Himachal Pradesh; 129 Roads Blocked, 39 Dead

Shimla (Rajeev Sharma): Heavy rainfall has triggered a fresh wave of landslides across Himachal Pradesh, disrupting road connectivity and damaging property in several districts. Three workers remain trapped beneath rocks at a limestone mining site in Sirmaur, where rescue teams began operations on Wednesday morning.

The landslide struck the Bagnadhar area of Kamrau in Sirmaur district on Tuesday afternoon. Two trucks and a tipper were caught in the slide while the workers were reportedly carrying out mining-related work.

Falling boulders delayed rescue

The incident was reported around 4 pm, but the rescue effort could not be undertaken immediately because large rocks continued to fall from the hillside.

The unstable conditions forced authorities to wait until the situation became safer for personnel to enter the affected area. A search operation was launched on Wednesday as teams began removing debris in an attempt to locate the trapped workers.

The difficult terrain and continuing threat of further rockfall have made the operation particularly challenging.

Rain causes widespread road closures

The latest spell of heavy rain has affected several parts of the state, with Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Mandi among the worst-hit districts.

More than 350 roads have been closed because of landslides, debris and other rain-related disruptions. Restoration work is being undertaken at various locations, although persistent rainfall could slow the process.

Shimla reports damage to vehicles

In Shimla city, falling trees and debris from hillsides damaged more than five vehicles. Such incidents have raised concerns over the safety of people travelling through areas vulnerable to slope failures.

Authorities are keeping a watch on roads and other vulnerable stretches as rainfall continues.

Waterlogging affects homes and shops

Heavy showers also resulted in water entering residential and commercial properties in several locations.

Areas of Parwanoo and Kasauli in Solan, Dharampur in Mandi, Shimla and parts of Sirmaur reported waterlogging and rain-related damage. Shops and houses in low-lying areas were particularly affected.

Rescue and restoration efforts continue

The administration is coordinating rescue efforts at the Sirmaur mining site while road agencies are working to clear debris from blocked routes.

With the monsoon remaining active, residents in landslide-prone areas have been urged to exercise caution. The latest incidents underline the continuing risks posed by heavy rainfall in Himachal’s mountainous terrain.
