Heavy Rains Cause Destruction in Himachal’s Kullu, Vehicles Swept Away in Bhootnath Drain

Shimla (Rajeev Sharma): Himachal Pradesh will continue to experience monsoon showers over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall in seven districts. The warning comes as the state continues to witness unsettled weather in several areas.

The districts under the alert are Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur. Isolated pockets in these regions could receive heavy showers, while light to moderate rainfall is likely at several other locations.

Heavy rain warning for key districts

The weather office has predicted continued rainfall for around four days. People travelling through hilly and landslide-prone areas have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during periods of intense rain.

The latest warning covers some of the districts that have experienced significant weather-related disruption during the ongoing monsoon.

District-wise forecast

The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi on August 20.

On August 21, the warning is expected to remain in place for Kangra and Mandi, while other parts of the state are not under any specific alert.

For August 22, only light rain or drizzle is expected at isolated locations, indicating a gradual reduction in rainfall activity.

Monsoon likely to weaken from August 23

The weather pattern is expected to change from August 23, when the monsoon is forecast to lose strength over Himachal Pradesh.

With rainfall activity declining, many parts of the state could experience brighter and sunnier conditions. The improvement will come as a relief for residents and authorities dealing with the impact of recent heavy showers.

However, until conditions improve, people in vulnerable areas are likely to remain watchful for landslides, falling rocks and temporary disruptions on mountain roads.
