Sirmaur (Rajeev Sharma): A family tragedy unfolded in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district after a house suddenly collapsed in the Rajgarh subdivision, killing two women and leaving two two-year-old children seriously injured.
The incident was reported from the Didag area on Wednesday afternoon. According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the house belonged to Bhim Singh of Chhichhadiya village in Mauza PC Didag.
Four people were inside the building when it collapsed. Local residents rushed to the spot and helped rescue those trapped under the debris.
The two fatalities were identified as 60-year-old Nirmala, wife of Bhim Singh, and 32-year-old Pooja, his daughter.
Two children also suffered major injuries in the collapse. They were identified as two-year-old Kumari Heera, Pooja’s daughter, and two-year-old Abhiyana, daughter of Arun, Bhim Singh’s son. Both were taken to Civil Hospital in Rajgarh for treatment.
Administration assesses situation
The DDMA said there were no reports of additional people being trapped or stranded following the incident. No livestock loss was reported either.
Officials also found no reported damage to public infrastructure, including electricity installations and other government assets.
The Village Revenue Officer from Didag brought the incident to the administration’s notice. Officials have since begun taking the required action, while the circumstances that led to the collapse are being examined.
Rain continues to trouble Himachal
The incident comes against the backdrop of a difficult monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh. Several districts have witnessed landslides, road blockages and other rain-related incidents over the past several weeks.
Government data for the period from June 30 to August 11 shows that more than 70 people have lost their lives in monsoon-related incidents. As many as 204 roads remain blocked across the state, including NH-154 and NH-21.
Mandi has reported the highest number of blocked roads, with 80 routes currently affected.
The financial impact has also been substantial, with damage to public property estimated to have crossed ₹910 crore. Repeated spells of heavy rain, landslides and cloudbursts have disrupted transportation and affected power and water infrastructure in several parts of the hill state.
The latest house collapse has once again highlighted the risks faced by residents living in vulnerable areas as the monsoon continues. Further details are awaited as the administration completes its assessment.
