Rising Heat Meets Weather Shift: Punjab Braces for Winds and Isolated Showers

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): A spell of intense heat across Punjab and Chandigarh is set to be accompanied by changing weather conditions, with forecasts indicating gusty winds and chances of light rainfall in select districts from Thursday.

Meteorological officials have pointed to the influence of an active Western Disturbance over the northern hills, which is beginning to impact adjoining plains. Areas including Amritsar, Pathankot and parts of Hoshiarpur may receive brief spells of rain, especially later in the day.

Even as clouds begin to develop, temperatures across the region continue to remain on the higher side. Patiala recorded the highest temperature at 38.3°C, while several other districts reported readings well above normal levels. Chandigarh, too, saw a warm day with temperatures nearing 37°C.

The weather department noted that a combination of atmospheric systems, including a trough and upper-level winds, is driving the current transition. While this may bring temporary relief in some pockets, the broader trend points toward a gradual rise in temperatures over the coming days.

No significant rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours, contributing to the persistent heat across most districts. However, wind speeds are expected to pick up, which could offer slight respite during daytime hours.

Experts suggest that while isolated showers may occur over the next day or two, the overall weather pattern will remain largely warm and dry, with temperatures likely to climb further before stabilising.

Residents have been advised to stay prepared for fluctuating conditions, as a mix of heat, winds, and brief rainfall could mark the next phase of the region’s weather.
