Jamnagar (Gurpreet Singh): Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced a landmark partnership with Meta Platforms, Inc. on Wednesday to develop a massive 168 MW capacity data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Scheduled for delivery within two years and featuring scalable options, the facility represents Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre capacity in India. Meta plans to lease the infrastructure to power its global operations, support its core business functions, and fulfill its expanding artificial intelligence compute requirements.
Under the terms of the agreement, RIL will act as a single-window solutions provider, overseeing the entire lifecycle of the facility including design, construction, utility management, and network connectivity. Crucially, the facility is designed around sustainability metrics, leveraging renewable energy for its operations and utilizing desalinated seawater to handle cooling requirements. The Jamnagar location offers direct access to Jio’s expansive fiber network alongside strategic connectivity to India’s western submarine cable landing stations.
Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, hailed the collaboration as a transformative milestone for the nation’s digital landscape, stating that the project underscores India’s readiness to lead the global AI revolution. Mirroring this optimism, Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed pride in deepening long-term investments in India, noting that the world-class facility will scale Meta’s global AI infrastructure. The strategic development aligns closely with the Government of India’s framework, which classifies data centres as critical national infrastructure to pull international AI investments into the domestic economy.
