Punjab Police crack down on gang networks; 240 arrested in statewide raids

Gurpreet Singh :- In a major statewide operation, the Punjab Police intensified its crackdown on organised crime under the ongoing ‘Campaign Against Gangsters’, conducting raids at 486 identified locations on the 97th day of the drive. The coordinated action targeted suspected hideouts and associates of gangsters across the state, aiming to dismantle their operational networks.

Weapons seized, total arrests cross 24,500
During the operation, police teams arrested 240 individuals and recovered six weapons. Officials said the cumulative number of arrests since the launch of the campaign has now reached 24,520, reflecting sustained efforts to curb criminal activities.

Preventive action and interrogation continue
Apart from the arrests, preventive action was initiated against 56 individuals, while 51 persons were released after verification and questioning. The police also managed to apprehend six absconding offenders during the drive, further tightening the net around criminal elements.

Public urged to assist with information
The police have appealed to citizens to cooperate by sharing information related to gang activities through the designated helpline, assuring confidentiality to encourage public participation in maintaining law and order.

Anti-drug campaign gathers pace; 132 traffickers held
Simultaneously, the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign entered its 422nd day, with police arresting 132 drug traffickers. Seizures included 4.1 kg of heroin, 23 kg of poppy husk, 704 intoxicant tablets/capsules and ₹38,000 in drug money.

Rehabilitation efforts continue alongside enforcement
With over 61,000 arrests made under the anti-drug initiative so far, the police also continue to focus on rehabilitation. On the day, 28 individuals were motivated to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, highlighting a dual approach of enforcement and recovery.
