Kolkata (Rajeev Sharma): Continuing his outreach in West Bengal ahead of the next phase of elections, Narendra Modi began his day with a river journey on the Hooghly River, where he offered prayers to the Ganga and interacted with people connected to the river.
The early morning visit saw the Prime Minister spending time with local boatmen, listening to their experiences and acknowledging their role in sustaining river-based livelihoods. He also greeted residents along the ghats, engaging briefly with those present during the morning hours.
Reflecting on the visit, Modi described the Ganga as a symbol deeply embedded in the cultural and spiritual life of Bengal. He emphasized that the river represents not just faith, but also the continuity of a long-standing civilisational legacy.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to observe key city landmarks, including the Howrah Bridge and Vidyasagar Setu, from the water, capturing moments from his journey.
The visit is being seen as part of a broader campaign strategy by the Bharatiya Janata Party to connect with local sentiments and cultural symbols in the state. The party is looking to challenge the dominance of the Trinamool Congress, which is seeking another term in power.
During his interactions, Modi reiterated his focus on development and assured that efforts would continue to improve infrastructure and opportunities in the state.
