Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh chaired a high-level review meeting at the Public Works Department Rest House in Gurugram on Monday to evaluate the progress of essential civic amenities and infrastructure projects. Addressing senior officials from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority and the Municipal Corporation Gurugram, the Minister emphasised that transforming the city into a better-organised urban centre is a top priority for the provincial government. He issued strict instructions to ensure that the pace of development is accelerated and that residents do not face avoidable inconveniences. The meeting was attended by GMDA Chief Executive Officer PC Meena and Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, alongside other departmental heads who provided detailed status reports on ongoing initiatives.
A primary focus of the discussion was the city’s readiness for the upcoming monsoon season, with the Minister demanding a permanent solution to the recurring issue of waterlogging. He directed officials to ensure the timely cleaning and de-silting of all major drains and to complete the expansion of the drainage network within a strict timeframe. Departmental representatives noted that three major drains are currently operational under the master drainage network and significant progress is being made in sectors 68 through 75 and 112 through 115. Administrative efforts have reportedly led to a notable decrease in identified waterlogging spots compared to previous years, a trend the Minister insisted must continue through proactive maintenance.
Regarding road infrastructure, the Minister was briefed on substantial investments aimed at improving connectivity across the metropolitan area. Officials reported that road projects worth approximately 447 crore rupees are currently underway, while additional works valued at 1,271 crore rupees are in the allotment stage. Furthermore, new projects totalling 1,870 crore rupees are in the planning and approval phases. Minister Rao Narbir Singh stressed the importance of completing these projects within their established deadlines, specifically highlighting the need to prioritise service roads along the Dwarka Expressway, sector dividing roads, and master roads to alleviate traffic congestion and improve commuter safety.
The Minister also addressed the critical issues of sanitation and waste management, asserting that maintaining cleanliness throughout Gurugram is a non-negotiable objective. He warned that any negligence in waste disposal would not be tolerated and called for regular monitoring of the collection and processing systems. The Municipal Corporation currently operates 400 vehicles for door-to-door waste collection and utilizes mechanized sweeping machines to clean approximately 540 kilometres of roads daily. Additionally, the Minister reviewed the drinking water supply, noting the city’s total treatment capacity of 670 MLD. He directed officials to strengthen alternative supply arrangements and monitoring mechanisms to ensure that residents do not face water shortages during the peak summer months.
In his concluding remarks, the Industries Minister urged officials to remain active in the field and personally oversee the execution of pending development tasks. He underscored that the swift resolution of public grievances is essential for effective governance and warned that administrative accountability would be strictly enforced. By fostering a more responsive and efficient bureaucracy, the government intends to ensure that Gurugram continues to develop as a world-class city. The Minister reiterated his commitment to regular reviews, stating that every effort must be made to align departmental actions with the growing needs and expectations of the city’s residents.
