Ludhiana (Gurpreet Singh): A celebration turned chaotic in Ludhiana after a dispute during a marriage function erupted into violence, leaving four people injured, including one who suffered a gunshot wound, police officials said on Tuesday.
The incident unfolded in the early hours, around 3 am, near Kochar Market. According to police, an argument between two groups—believed to be neighbours—quickly intensified, leading to an exchange of blows. During the initial clash, three individuals were injured with sharp-edged weapons.
Authorities said the situation worsened when the injured were being taken to the civil hospital. Members of the rival group allegedly confronted them again near the hospital premises, where gunshots were fired. One of the bullets struck a man identified as Dharminder, injuring him in the leg.
All four victims were admitted to hospital, with one reported to be in a serious condition.
Investigators have ruled out any connection to organised crime or gang rivalry. Police officials indicated that those involved were local residents and were allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, which began as a minor disagreement.
Officials further revealed that multiple shots were fired during the second confrontation. The firearm used is suspected to be licensed, but confirmation will depend on its recovery.
Police have initiated a probe to trace the accused and piece together the sequence of events, while security has been tightened in the area to prevent any further escalation.
