Shimla (Rajeev Sharma): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of heavy rainfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh, issuing a weather alert for Chamba, Kangra and Sirmaur districts. While these areas are expected to witness intense showers, light to moderate rainfall is likely across much of the rest of the state.
The weather office has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph over the lower and mid-hill regions. Similar wind speeds are expected in the high-altitude districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.
Officials have warned that the ongoing monsoon activity could increase the likelihood of flash floods, landslides and debris flow in vulnerable locations. Rising water levels in rivers and seasonal streams may also result in flooding of low-lying areas, while slippery roads and falling rocks could disrupt vehicular movement on several hill routes.
In view of the forecast, the IMD has urged residents and tourists to avoid venturing near rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas. People have also been advised to limit unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and strictly follow instructions issued by district administrations.
The department said the active monsoon phase is expected to continue over the next few days, making it important for people to stay updated with official weather bulletins before travelling.
Meanwhile, Una recorded the highest daytime temperature in the state at 32.6°C. Other major towns reported maximum temperatures of 32.0°C in Mandi, 28.2°C in Nahan, 28.0°C in Dharamshala and Solan, and 21.4°C in Shimla. No significant change in temperatures was observed over the previous 24 hours.
Rainfall data showed that Shimla received the highest precipitation, recording 34 mm during the past day. It was followed by Mandi (19.4 mm), Una (12.1 mm), Nahan (9 mm), Jubbarhatti (4.8 mm) and Kangra (4 mm).
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant as the monsoon continues to influence weather conditions across the state, with emergency agencies closely monitoring vulnerable areas for any rain-related incidents.
