Surrey (Rajeev Sharma): The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has assumed conduct of a homicide investigation following a fatal shooting in Surrey that claimed the life of one man early Sunday morning.
According to police, officers with the Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded at approximately 12:22 a.m. on May 31, 2026, to reports of a shooting in the area of 138 Street and 62 Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a male victim inside a vehicle that had collided with a power pole. The victim was suffering from gunshot wounds.
SPS officers immediately provided emergency medical assistance until paramedics from the BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) arrived. Despite extensive life-saving efforts by first responders, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Due to the nature of the incident, IHIT has taken over the investigation and is working closely with Surrey Police Service officers to carry out priority investigative tasks and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Investigators have not made any arrests, and police say there is currently no suspect information available for release. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and speak with potential witnesses.
IHIT is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam or surveillance footage from the area around the time of the shooting to contact investigators. The investigation remains in its early stages, and further details will be released as they become available.
