Haryana Suspends 966 Drug Sale Licences After Inspections, Cancels 15 More Over Irregularities

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana government has suspended 966 drug sale licences and 12 manufacturing or blood centre licences following inspections carried out between April 1 and September 30, 2026. During the same period, 15 licences were cancelled completely and five were partially cancelled over alleged violations and irregularities.

Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao said the state government was committed to ensuring that residents had access to safe and quality medicines. She added that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had been directed to take strict action against those involved in manufacturing or selling counterfeit drugs.

According to an FDA spokesperson, the department inspected 13,590 drug sale units and 423 manufacturing units during the six-month drive. The action was taken after inspections revealed violations and lapses in compliance with regulations.

11 Drug Samples Found Substandard

As part of its quality-control efforts, the department collected 2,389 drug samples during the period. Testing has been completed for 2,189 samples, of which 11 were found to be substandard.

The department also initiated prosecution in 64 cases against those accused of violating drug-related regulations. Of the 15 cases decided by courts during this period, eight resulted in convictions and seven in acquittals. Another 462 cases are currently pending before courts.

In joint operations with the police, FDA officials conducted 376 raids. These operations led to the registration of two FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and four under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act.

Fake Mounjaro Injections Worth Rs 70 Lakh Seized

The FDA also reported action against counterfeit medicines in several cases.

In April 2026, its teams seized fake weight-loss and diabetes-control injections bearing the Mounjaro name, with an estimated value of around Rs 70 lakh.

In July, the FDA’s Gurugram team exposed an interstate network allegedly involved in manufacturing and selling counterfeit Telma-AM, a medicine used to manage high blood pressure.

On July 28, the FDA Faridabad team seized a large consignment of suspected fake propylene glycol following a complaint.

Haryana Issues New Drug Licences

Alongside enforcement measures, the department issued 2,675 retail and wholesale drug sale licences and 20 manufacturing licences during the period. It also granted recognition to 14 medical institutions and upgraded two manufacturing units to WHO-GMP standards.

Rao said the government was following a zero-tolerance policy towards those endangering public health. She maintained that there would be no compromise on the quality of medicines sold in Haryana and that strict action would continue against those involved in the sale or manufacture of counterfeit drugs.
