Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh on Monday called upon legislators and public representatives to dedicate themselves to the four key pillars of the Viksit Bharat vision—youth, the poor, women and farmers—stating that the dream of a developed and inclusive India envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a shared national responsibility.
Addressing the valedictory session of the Second Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-II North Zone Conference in Chandigarh, the Governor said parliamentary democracy extends beyond lawmaking and includes ensuring accountability and inclusive governance for all sections of society.
Prof. Ghosh said meaningful development can only be achieved when its benefits reach the last person in society. He urged elected representatives to channel their energy, time and resources toward empowering underprivileged and resource-constrained communities, describing them as the foundation of India’s long-term development strategy.
Expressing satisfaction over the deliberations held during the conference, the Governor said discussions on the theme “Role of Legislators and an Aware Society in Achieving the Goals of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Understanding Future Challenges” were insightful, forward-looking and intellectually enriching.
He noted that such exchanges strengthen democratic institutions and help chart a clear roadmap for the country’s future. According to him, constructive dialogue among lawmakers is essential for addressing emerging challenges and ensuring effective governance.
The Governor also thanked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for bringing together representatives from various legislative assemblies on a common platform. He said the conference provided a valuable opportunity to exchange views on parliamentary democracy, legislative procedures, democratic governance and issues of mutual interest among different state legislatures.
Prof. Ghosh urged all participating delegates to take the ideas, recommendations and insights generated during the conference back to their respective assemblies and institutions. He said implementing these suggestions at the grassroots level would contribute significantly to building an inclusive, prosperous and developed India.
Congratulating the Haryana Legislative Assembly and Speaker Harvinder Kalyan for successfully hosting the conference, the Governor praised the arrangements made for delegates and participants, saying they played an important role in ensuring the event’s success.
The concluding session was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, Deputy Speaker Dr. Krishan Lal Middha, and several Speakers, Deputy Speakers and parliamentary representatives from different states.
