Haryana Commences Census 2027 Preparations with Population Enumeration Pre-Test

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana has officially initiated its operational preparations for the Population Enumeration phase of the Census of India 2027. Providing details on the development, Dr. Sumita Mishra, Financial Commissioner of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department and Nodal Officer for Haryana Census 2027, announced that the state government has formally notified the pre-test for population enumeration in selected sample areas. This crucial field exercise is scheduled to take place from July 6 to July 18, 2026, serving as a vital component of the nationwide pilot framework designed to streamline the upcoming decadal census.

Dr. Mishra emphasized that the pre-test serves as a foundational step toward ensuring a smooth, highly accurate, and efficient nationwide census operation. Prior to the physical rollout of field enumerators, eligible residents living within the designated sample blocks were provided an opportunity for self-enumeration from July 1 to July 5, 2026. This digital window allowed citizens to voluntarily log into the designated government portal and securely submit their demographic details. Following the conclusion of the active field exercise, a dedicated revisional round will be conducted from July 19 to July 20, 2026, to meticulously verify, update, and validate the collected household data.

The pilot exercise has been meticulously structured to test the overall efficacy of the modern methodology, digital infrastructure, field operations, and data collection tools before they are deployed on a national scale. The insights gained from the Haryana pre-test will play a significant role in identifying ground-level operational challenges, refining digital platforms, and reinforcing the analytical framework. Dr. Mishra appealed to all residents within the selected clusters to cooperate fully with visiting officials, reiterating that authentic census data remains the cornerstone for evidence-based governance, infrastructure planning, and public welfare schemes. The administrative notification has been issued under the strict statutory provisions of Section 17A of the Census Act, 1948, and Rule 6D of the Census Rules, 1990.
