Rajeev Sharma: In a significant breakthrough against transnational organized crime, notorious gangster Gurpreet Singh, also known as Goldy Dhillon, a close associate of Canada based designated terrorist Goldy Brar, has been arrested in Madrid, Spain.
The arrest was carried out following a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving the Punjab Police Anti Gangster Task Force, Chandigarh Police, and central intelligence agencies. Authorities described the operation as a major success in dismantling the international network of the Goldy Brar gang.
According to investigators, Goldy Dhillon is the alleged mastermind behind the broad daylight murder of a pharmacy cashier in Chandigarh’s Sector 11 and is linked to several high-profile extortion rackets, targeted killings, and organized crime activities across northern India. He is also a wanted co-conspirator with Goldy Brar in a 2024 chargesheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Following his detention in Madrid, Indian authorities have initiated diplomatic and legal proceedings to secure Dhillon’s extradition from Spain. Officials say his return to India could provide crucial leads into the operations of international gangster-terror networks and help investigators uncover financial and logistical links extending beyond India’s borders.
The arrest is being viewed as a major step in India’s ongoing efforts to crack down on organized crime syndicates operating across international jurisdictions
