Haryana Chief Minister Saini Slams Opposition for Obstructing Women’s Empowerment

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has accused the opposition of creating hurdles in the path of women’s rights, specifically targeting the Congress for what he termed “hypocrisy” regarding female reservation. Addressing a press conference in Rohtak, the Chief Minister labelled the Congress and its alliance partners as “anti-women,” stating that their recent actions in Parliament to block bills related to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam have exposed their true character. He was joined by West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat and BJP State President Mohan Lal Kaushik during the session.

Chief Minister Saini claimed that on April 16 and 17, the opposition’s resistance to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in the “temple of democracy” was not just undemocratic but a direct assault on the future of half of India’s population. He alleged that parties like the Congress, Samajwadi Party, TMC, and DMK have shown that they prefer narrow political gains over granting women their constitutional rights. According to Saini, the central government had introduced three revolutionary bills—the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, the Delimitation Bill, and the Union Territory Law (Amendment) Bill—to ensure women could benefit from reservation as early as the 2029 general elections.

The Chief Minister explained that while the original plan linked reservation to the post-2026 census and delimitation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to decouple the reservation from these conditions to prevent further delays. He questioned why the opposition feared women’s political participation, suggesting that the rise of women in leadership would mark the end of “dynastic politics.” Saini also dismissed the opposition’s claims that delimitation would harm South Indian states, clarifying that the proposed model would increase seats uniformly by 50 per cent across all regions, maintaining a fair balance.

Further criticizing the Congress, Saini highlighted a history of “negative politics,” citing their opposition to the abolition of Triple Talaq, the removal of Article 370, and the Citizenship Amendment Act. He concluded by stating that modern Indian women, who are already leading in panchayats and industries, will use the power of their vote to give a fitting reply to parties with an anti-women mindset. On the sidelines, the Chief Minister also addressed local issues, reassuring farmers that the government has made all necessary arrangements for crop procurement in the markets.
