Haryana Announces Maharana Pratap Chair at Kurukshetra University and Multi-Crore Regional Development Grants

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh)— Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced a series of major academic and infrastructure initiatives during the state-level Maharana Pratap Jayanti celebrations held in Shahzadpur, Ambala. The commemorative event, organised under the state’s cultural propagation scheme, served as a platform to honour historic icons and support regional development. Mizoram Governor General Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh attended the function as a special guest, alongside Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana and several other senior cabinet ministers.

As part of the key academic announcements, Chief Minister Saini declared that Kurukshetra University will establish a dedicated study centre and an academic chair in honour of Maharana Pratap to preserve and research his historical legacy. Furthermore, the Government Women’s College located in Badagarh, Shahzadpur, will be officially renamed Maharani Padmavati Government College. Prior to making these announcements, the Chief Minister also unveiled a newly renovated statue of Maharana Pratap at the venue.

To accelerate regional development and support community infrastructure, the Chief Minister approved a financial grant of five crore rupees for various public works across the Naraingarh assembly constituency. He also sanctioned an allocation of 31 lakh rupees to aid the construction of a local Rajput hostel. Addressing long-standing civil demands, Saini pledged that the main unpaved drainage canal in Shahzadpur would be completely paved to improve local sanitation and infrastructure management.

Reflecting on the historical significance of the day, Saini described Maharana Pratap as a timeless symbol of ultimate bravery, justice, and truth whose sacrifices continue to inspire modern national defense strategies. He lauded the historic contributions of the Rajput community, emphasizing their frontline role in defending the nation’s sovereignty during the independence movement and beyond. The Chief Minister also linked this legacy of strength to modern national security initiatives, recalling the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, where Indian security forces neutralized terrorists in Pahalgam.

Mizoram Governor V.K. Singh addressed the gathering by highlighting that Maharana Pratap’s sophisticated military tactics and resilience in the face of adversity later served as a blueprint for other great leaders, including Chhatrapati Shivaji. He urged citizens to adopt these historical values of public welfare and strategic planning in their daily lives to ensure societal growth. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana concluded the speeches by detailing the strategic events of the Battle of Haldighati, paying tribute to the generations of sacrifices made by historical leaders to safeguard the nation’s identity.
