Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh/Rajeev Sharma): The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has added Punjab resident Gurpreet Singh to its wanted list in connection with an alleged transnational organised crime investigation, marking another case involving a person from the state in an international criminal probe.
According to the FBI, Singh is accused of having links with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria organised crime group, which the agency claims originated in Punjab and later operated in parts of the United States, including California.
The agency has alleged that Singh was involved in offences related to illegal firearms transactions, drug trafficking and the distribution of controlled substances. A federal warrant was issued against him on June 25 by the US District Court for the Central District of California in Los Angeles after charges were filed in the case.
The charges against Singh include conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances with the intention of distribution, along with allegations of involvement in the supply of prohibited drugs.
US Investigation Targets Punjab-Linked Crime Networks
The latest development comes as American authorities continue investigations into alleged international criminal networks with connections to Punjab.
In June, a US-led operation targeting organised crime groups resulted in charges against 37 individuals. Among those named were Punjab-based gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. The operation, reportedly titled “Hard Ball,” focused on alleged transnational criminal activities.
US agencies have been examining networks suspected of involvement in crimes such as narcotics trafficking, weapons-related offences and other organised criminal operations across borders.
FBI Listing of Amritpal Singh Also Drew Attention
The FBI’s latest announcement follows its recent release of information regarding another Punjab resident, Amritpal Singh, who was listed as a wanted accused.
However, Amritpal Singh’s family challenged the listing, stating that he had returned from Canada, was living in Mowai village in Jalandhar district and died in a road accident on February 19, 2025, while travelling back from his farm.
The family has maintained that the FBI’s action came after his death and questioned the circumstances behind his inclusion in the wanted list.
The FBI has not provided details about Gurpreet Singh’s current whereabouts or any possible arrest. The investigation into the alleged criminal network and the role of individuals linked to it remains ongoing.
