Washington (Rajeev Sharma): US President Donald Trump has once again defended his administration’s hardline approach toward Iran while claiming that Pakistan played a role in encouraging diplomatic engagement with Tehran. Speaking to reporters, Trump also asserted that his intervention helped prevent a possible military confrontation between India and Pakistan from escalating into a nuclear conflict.
Highlighting America’s military capabilities, Trump described the US armed forces as the strongest in the world and said Washington had temporarily eased pressure on Iran following a request from Pakistan. According to him, Islamabad has maintained communication channels with Tehran and continues to encourage a peaceful resolution.
Trump further claimed that his administration’s diplomatic efforts prevented a wider conflict in South Asia, saying tensions between India and Pakistan could have spiralled into a nuclear crisis without US involvement. He maintained that both countries later adopted a more cooperative approach.
Addressing Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the US President insisted that Tehran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, warning that such a development would threaten regional stability and the security of Israel. He argued that the proposed agreement under discussion would permanently block Iran from pursuing nuclear capabilities.
The President also indicated that the United States would continue military operations if necessary, saying Iran had taken hostile actions, including targeting American assets. Referring to a recent incident involving a damaged helicopter and an unexploded bomb, Trump praised the rescue operation and described the survival of the crew as fortunate.
Expressing frustration over the pace of negotiations, Trump alleged that Iranian leaders have delayed reaching an agreement while attempting to exploit previous US administrations. He maintained that his government remains committed to securing what he called a “meaningful and lasting deal” that safeguards American and allied interests.
Trump’s latest remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where diplomatic negotiations and military developments continue to shape the geopolitical landscape.
