Vancouver (Amrit Dhot/ Richa): The Consulate General of India in Vancouver brought India’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and community spirit to the heart of downtown Vancouver on Saturday, leading the successful 9th annual Namaste Canada 2026 celebration at the Vancouver Art Gallery – North Plaza.
The free community festival drew visitors throughout the day, turning the North Plaza into a vibrant showcase of Indian music, dance, culture, food, shopping and community activities. The celebration reflected the Consulate’s continued efforts to provide a prominent platform for India’s diverse cultural traditions and strengthen cultural connections with the wider Canadian community.
The full-day program began at 10 a.m. with exhibitions and community activities, followed by Iqbal Live featuring Vasundhara at 12 noon. The official inaugural ceremony took place at 1:15 p.m., followed by a packed cultural program featuring more than 30 dance showcases representing the diversity of Indian traditions.
Visitors moved through the festival throughout the day, enjoying cultural performances, exhibitions, food and shopping while connecting with community organizations and fellow residents. The event brought together the Indian diaspora and the wider Vancouver community in a shared celebration of India’s heritage.
The celebrations continued into the evening with a block party featuring DJ Roh, giving visitors an energetic finale after a full day of cultural programming and entertainment.
The successful 9th edition of Namaste Canada 2026 highlighted the Consulate General of India in Vancouver’s role in promoting India’s cultural heritage and creating opportunities for communities across British Columbia to celebrate India’s diverse traditions together.
