Guepreet Singh :- A fresh controversy has surfaced in Zirakpur following the recent Municipal Council elections, after a BJP leader couple accused members of their own party of harassment and physical assault. The allegations, made through a video that has gone viral on social media, have triggered political discussion and prompted police scrutiny.
Jyotsna Sharma, who contested the Municipal Council elections from Ward No. 18 on a BJP ticket, and her husband Rajesh Sharma alleged that they had been subjected to continuous harassment since May 22. In the video, the couple claimed that they were called to an office where they were allegedly assaulted, humiliated and threatened. Rajesh Sharma further alleged that his mobile phone was snatched and that he was attacked during the incident.
The couple maintained that the episode had caused them severe mental distress. Rajesh Sharma claimed that he informed his son about the incident immediately after it occurred and alleged that attempts were now being made to implicate his son in a false case.
According to the couple, written complaints have already been submitted to the Dhakoli and Zirakpur police stations, but no concrete action has been taken so far. They also named a local individual, accusing him and his associates of being involved in the alleged assault and mistreatment.
However, the allegations have been strongly denied by the other side. In a separate video statement, the accused individual rejected all claims and asserted that the dispute stemmed from a financial transaction between the two parties. He alleged that Rajesh Sharma’s son had attempted to attack his residence and claimed to possess CCTV footage supporting his version of events. He further stated that a complaint regarding the matter had already been lodged with the Dhakoli police.
The individual also alleged that the couple’s video was an attempt to divert attention from the actual dispute and influence public opinion. He claimed that his family had been unfairly targeted in the controversy.
With both sides making serious allegations against each other and the matter gaining traction on social media, senior police officials have taken cognisance of the issue. Police said complaints, video recordings and other available evidence are being examined, and appropriate legal action will be initiated on the basis of the findings of the investigation.
