Amritsar Rural Police Bust Illegal Arms Network, Recover AK-47 and Hand Grenades

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): Amritsar Rural Police have arrested a person in connection with an alleged illegal weapons supply network and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, live ammunition and two hand grenades, officials said.

The operation was carried out as part of the police crackdown on the movement and supply of illegal arms and explosives. According to the preliminary findings, the arrested suspect allegedly had links with smugglers operating from outside India and was involved in arranging illegal weapons.

Police said the recovery includes one AK-47 rifle along with a magazine, live cartridges and two hand grenades. The seizure has prompted investigators to examine the wider network behind the alleged supply of the weapons.

An FIR has been registered at Gharinda police station in Amritsar under relevant provisions of the Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act.

Investigators are now working to identify other people who may have been connected to the suspected network. The probe will focus on establishing both the backward and forward linkages, including the source of the weapons and their intended recipients.

The police have not disclosed further details about the identity of the accused or the alleged foreign-based contacts as the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities said the investigation would continue to determine the full scope of the network and identify anyone else involved in the illegal procurement, movement or distribution of arms and explosives.
