Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): In a significant operation against organised drug trafficking and illegal arms distribution, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled three suspected networks and arrested five people, recovering a sizeable cache of narcotics, firearms and ammunition.
According to the police, the operation led to the seizure of 13 pistols, 3.267 kilograms of heroin and 22 live cartridges. Preliminary inquiries indicate that the arrested individuals were allegedly involved in supplying illegal weapons and narcotics.
Separate First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered at D-Division Police Station and Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar in connection with the seizures.
Investigators are now working to establish the wider network behind the alleged operations. Police are examining both the backward and forward links of the supply chains and are also attempting to identify other people who may have been involved, including suspected handlers operating from outside India.
The latest action forms part of the Punjab Police’s continuing efforts to curb the movement of illegal drugs and firearms in the state. Further investigation is expected to shed more light on the source of the contraband, its intended distribution channels and the identities of other suspected associates.
